MYTH # 1: Life is depressing and I should accept feeling sad all the time.
FACT: There are a lot of situations that cause pain and sadness at this time of your life.

MYTH #2: Nothing will help anyway.
FACT: Depression lies to your brain. It's like wearing glasses that tint everything grey. It tells you that you will not feel better again and that nothing will help. It will tell you to give up hope that you will feel better. Lots of research studies have shown that therapy is helpful for treating depression.
MYTH #3: Going to therapy means I’m crazy and I will always need help.
FACT: Not everyone who comes to therapy has a specific diagnosis or needs long term care. Many people benefit from a few weeks of professional support, then decide to have periodic check ins with a trusted therapist who is there when they need it.
MYTH #4: I’m too old to change.
FACT: Maybe it's time to emerge into a better life. I’ve personally witnessed the transformation of older clients who have learned different ways of understanding the past and dealing with the present. It’s never too late to make changes in your life.
Myth #5 I'm on a fixed income and I can’t afford it.
FACT: Medicare Part B covers outpatient therapy provided by certain professionals. As a licensed clinical social worker, I accept Medicare!
